Community Input Results in Library Staying Put
SAN JOSE , CA- Councilmember Pete Constant in coordination with the San Jose Public Library Department and Parks Recreation and Neighborhood Services Department has decided to rebuild the new Calabazas Library in its current location. The old library is a 5,880 square foot facility that no longer meets the needs of the community. The new 9,000 square foot facility will accommodate a larger collection, (important since this library has one of the highest circulations in the City), more computers, lounge seating and a story telling area. Councilmember Constant is working to identify funding to add an additional 1,000 square feet of space to the new Library for a community room. This additional space would be available for programming and community meetings. 'The fact that we had to have community meetings about this project at facilities in other parts of the district illustrates the need for a community meeting room in this neighborhood. I have been working with neighbors near Calabazas to put establish neighborhood associations. I will work to ensure that they have a place to meet,' stated Constant.
